Day One

Step aboard the iconic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Paris, prepared for your enchanting journey to Liguria. Settle into your cosy cabin, where luxurious upholstery, shining marquetry, and soft lighting create the perfect ambiance for the glamour that awaits. Your personal adventure will gradually unfold against this sophisticated backdrop.

As the train sets off on its journey south through France, your steward presents you with delectable pastries alongside tea and coffee in your cabin. The train will meander through the charming cities of Dijon, Lyon, and Avignon, eventually arriving at Toulon on the sparkling Mediterranean coast.

Before dinner, savour a glass of champagne or a refreshing aperitif in Bar Car ‘3674’. Then, proceed to one of the exquisite dining cars, inspired by Chef Jean Imbert's vision. His menus celebrate the regions and cultures encountered along the way, revitalising classic dishes with a contemporary flair. Complementing your meal are selections from the train’s wine collection, honoring Europe’s finest vineyards. After dinner, the bar awaits your return, offering signature cocktails, enchanting piano melodies, and an atmosphere of joyful spontaneity well into the early hours.

Day Two

Awaken to idyllic vistas as you journey through southern France. At a time that suits you, your steward will serve a French breakfast in your cabin. Flaky pastries, fresh juice, and aromatic coffee provide the perfect start to your day. Soak in the mesmerising views of the Côte d’Azur, where palm trees frame boats gently bobbing on the Mediterranean Sea, and timeless villages nestle against verdant hills. Take a moment to explore our onboard boutique, offering an array of tempting gifts and keepsakes.

Your route follows the breathtaking coastal railway linking the French and Italian Rivieras. Glide past iconic sights such as sunlit Cannes and Nice, the epitome of French Riviera glamour, and Monte Carlo, famed for its historic Formula One Grand Prix track, legendary casino, and sleek superyachts. Crossing into Italy, admire Ventimiglia’s vibrant charm and Savona, where Christopher Columbus once lived. In Genoa, discover the former capital of a powerful maritime republic, with its magnificent palaces, medieval streets, and timeless allure.

Arriving in Santa Margherita Ligure, you’ll disembark for a transfer to the elegant Hotel Splendido in Portofino.

Day Two (continued)
In the evening, savour a divine dinner crafted by Chef Jean Imbert at La Terrazza, Splendido’s iconic restaurant with breathtaking views over the Gulf of Tigullio. Afterwards, indulge in after-dinner drinks at the cocktail bar, treading in the footsteps of legendary guests such as Elizabeth Taylor, Humphrey Bogart, and Liza Minnelli.

Day Three: Portofino
Spend the day enjoying the hotel’s luxurious amenities at your leisure. Swim in the heated saltwater pool, wander through the lush gardens, or admire the stunning sea views. Pamper yourself with a treatment at the Jardin des Rêves Dior Spa, or enjoy a perfectly crisp pizza at the Pool Grill Restaurant. Take the courtesy shuttle to the bustling Piazzetta and explore Portofino’s iconic charms. For the more adventurous, the Concierge can arrange nature walks, wine tastings, or kayaking in the local area.

As the sun sets, consider visiting Splendido Mare, Splendido's sister hotel by the harbour, for a delightful dinner at DaV Mare. Relish the authentic flavours of Liguria in an enchanting waterside setting.

Day Four: Portofino
On your final morning, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at La Terrazza. Savour the freshest local ingredients while admiring the yachts in the bay from the wisteria-draped balcony. Take some time for a last stroll through the magnificent grounds before checking out and continuing your onward journey.

Solo Travellers: Due to the upgrade of the Cabin Suites and Grand Suites, unfortunately, it is no longer possible to book a Single Cabin aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Solo travellers are still able to book although they are expected to pay a "sole occupancy supplement", which in effect is like paying for two passengers. If you are looking to book as a solo traveller aboard the train, please get in touch with us first as we will not be able to accept your booking if you pay for just one ticket.
