Day 1 – Edinburgh:
Board the Belmond Royal Scotsman luxury train at Edinburgh Waverley Station early afternoon as we cross the Firth of Forth over the Forth Railway Bridge. Enjoy time aboard to settle into your private accommodation and explore the train before afternoon tea is served. Marvel at the ever-changing scenery and converse with fellow guests before an informal dinner
Day 2 – Kyle of Lochalsh:
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as we continue along the Highlands towards Inverness. Lunch is served on the way to Kyle of Lochalsh along one of the most scenic routes in Britain. As we arrive in the fishing village of Plockton, take a boat trip to see a colony of wild seals and take in the magnificent views across the bay to the Apple Cross Mountains. Enjoy a woodland walk with time to spare for a Highland welcome in the Plockton Hotel. Return to the train where a formal dinner is served followed by coffee and liqueurs in the Observation Car.
Please note: On some rare occasions, you will visit Cawdor Castle instead of Plockton.
Day 3 – Boat of Garten:
Enjoy an early morning walk with our host over the bridge that links the mainland with the Isle of Skye, or choose instead to take a short drive before breakfast to Eilean Donan Castle. We depart from Kyle of Lochalsh where breakfast is served on board as we take in yet more stunning views. Relax over lunch as we head south to Carrbridge where you’ll visit one of Scotland’s most romantic castles, Ballindalloch. Choose to take a tour of the castle and grounds or instead play a round of 9-hole golf on the castle’s course. Alternatively, guests can choose to visit the castle’s own whisky distillery. Later that day, return to the train at Boat of Garten for an informal dinner. Later that night, local musicians play in the Observation Car.
Day 4 – Rothiemurchus:
After enjoying breakfast, a short transfer takes you to Rothimurchus Estate where guests are offered to choose from a range of activities such as play pigeon shooting, finishing or an estate tour. Refreshments are later served in the hunting lodge before we return to the train in Kingussie for a leisurely lunch. Depart at Dunkeld for a private tour of Glamis Castle and the gardens. Later, we rejoin the train in Perth for a formal dinner and a night of entertainment courtesy of live musicians
Day 5 – Edinburgh:
Yet more beautiful scenery welcomes us as we arrive in Edinburgh, where guests are treated to a guided tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia as well as a light lunch on board. Alternatively, guests are also welcome to enjoy leisure time in Edinburgh and explore the city as they wish. Rejoin the train early afternoon and head towards the edge of Gare Loch where you will be treated to afternoon tea as you take in the spectacular views. As we head towards Rannoch Moor, head to the Observation Car for a picturesque view of the beautiful Scottish landscape. Later, an informal dinner is served followed by entertainment from local musicians in the Observation Car.
Day 6 – Glenfinnan:
Head to the Observation Car as we travel west for views of Ben Nevis before we arrive at Arisaig and disembark for a gentle stroll along the beautiful Morar Sands. Return to the train for lunch as we retrace our route towards Fort William. Arriving at Glenfinnan, disembark for a tour with our guide and enjoy a cream tea in the drawing room at Inverlochy Castle Hotel before returning to Fort William. Guests are also invited to choose an alternative hike of Nevis Gorge, weather permitting. Leisure time on board is ideal for relaxing before an informal dinner is served.
Day 7 – Mount Stuart:
As we leave the Bridge of Orchy this morning, be sure to take in the passing views of the dramatic Highland scenery as we head towards Glasgow. As we arrive at Wemyss Bay, we board a ferry to the Isle of Bute, a beautiful location with a variety of landscapes. We head to Mount Stuart for a visit to these spectacular Victorian Gothic houses and admire the architecture, art and gardens. Afternoon tea is served in the Drawing Room after which you are free to explore. Later, we board the Royal Scotsman once more for a formal dinner followed by entertainment in the Observation Car and farewell drinks.
