Your journey beings in the Scottish capital, where you will board one of the world's most luxurious sleeper trains for a vintage train holiday like no other. As you depart Waverley station in the morning the Royal Scotsman will journey towards Alnmouth, along the east coast of Scotland to arrive at Alnwick Castle, made famous for its part in the Harry Potter films. This will be the first of four castles and gardens you will get to visit.
Day two of the Glorious and Grand tour aboard the Royal Scotsman will take you along one of the most iconic of railways, the Settle to Carlisle, here you will be able to see the famous arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct. As the scenic journey continues, you will eventually arrive at Chipchase Castle and Gardens, where you will explore the grounds.
The third day of this luxury train journey aboard the Royal Scotsman will send you to Derwentwater, in the heart of the Lake District, a location that inspired Beatrix Potter's "The Tale of Peter Rabbit". You will take lunch at the home of Lord and Lady Inglewood.
Your glorious and grand tour continues, and on day four of this luxury train holiday, you will journey back towards the boards to Dumfries and Galloway. You will visit the Garden of Cosmic and after lunch, you'll visit Drumlanrig Castle.

Day 1 – Edinburgh:
Board the Belmond Royal Scotsman luxury sleeper train at Edinburgh Waverley Station in the early afternoon as you head west to Craigendoran. Enjoy an afternoon tea as you marvel at the peaks of the highlands gliding past your window. Leisure time aboard the train is the ideal opportunity to settle into your luxurious cabin and converse with fellow passengers, before the train stables in the village of Spean Bridge for the night and you enjoy an indulgent informal dinner.
Day 2 – Fort William:
Take in the views of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, before you disembark in Arisaig for a gentle stroll across the white beaches of Morar Sands. Return to the train for lunch as our Highlander joins the group to take you to Glenfinnan Monument and explain the history of the area before an indulgent cream tea at Inverlochy Castle. Alternatively, guests can choose to bike to Steall Waterfall. Return to the Royal Scotsman for dinner followed by musical entertainment.
Day 3 – Mount Stuart:
We head towards the Isle of Bute, an island rich in history and wildlife with a beautiful landscape to explore. Enjoy a visit to the stunning Victorian Gothic house Mount Stuart with a fine privately held collection of family portraits. The day concludes with a formal dinner on board the Royal Scotsman.
Day 4 – Edinburgh:
Marvel at the ever-changing landscape as we head back to Edinburgh. A brief pause allows you to explore the city, the Royal Mile, and the Castle or simply lose yourself in an art gallery or relax with a coffee. Rejoining the Royal Scotsman early afternoon, we continue our journey over the incredible Forth Railway Bridge to the Fair City of Perth before returning to Fort William. Leisure time on board is ideal for relaxing before an informal dinner.
Day 5 – Rothiemurchus:
Wake to a leisurely breakfast before a brief transfer to the historic estate of Rothiemurchus at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. A magical venue where you are invited to try outdoor pursuits such as clay pigeon shooting or a more gentle guided walk through the estate. Later rejoin the train for lunch before a visit to the Culloden Battlefield. Later that evening we travel to the Strathisla Distillery, one of the oldest working distilleries and home to Scotland’s famous whiskies. We rejoin the train for a formal dinner to end the day.
Day 6 – Edinburgh:
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as the train returns to Edinburgh where your journey concludes.

All prices shown are for one adult ticket. Sleeper journeys are based on two adults sharing accommodation. Single occupancy of cabins may incur additional charge.

This is done so the operators can add you to their guest list, send you your tickets and ensure the meals served to you onboard meet your dietary requirements. By booking with LuxuryTrainTickets.com, you are agreeing that you allow such necessary details to be shared with the operators under the cause of legitimate interest. There are a limited number of private tables and cabin types onboard. While we keep our website updated regularly, there may be occasions when private tables or cabin types become fully booked meaning we are unable to fulfil your booking requirements. Should this be the case, we will contact you to discuss alternative options and refund any payments made.
We have the right to refuse the request of a deposit when a journey is scheduled to depart in less than 16 weeks. If you choose to book with a deposit you must pay the remaining balance in full 15 weeks before departure at the latest. Should you fail to pay the remaining balance 15 weeks prior to departure, you will forfeit your deposit and your booking. Deposits are accepted by request. Most journeys require a 25% deposit to secure a booking however some specialist journeys do require a 50% deposit. Please contact us for confirmation.
Tickets are sent electronically around 5 days before departure. You will not receive tickets or any form of 'gift pack' in the post. This is in an attempt to reduce paper use and do our part for the environment.
