Your journey beings in the Scottish capital, where you will board one of the world's most luxurious sleeper trains for a vintage train holiday like no other. As you depart Waverley station in the morning the Royal Scotsman will journey towards Alnmouth, along the east coast of Scotland to arrive at Alnwick Castle, made famous for its part in the Harry Potter films. This will be the first of four castles and gardens you will get to visit.
Day two of the Glorious and Grand tour aboard the Royal Scotsman will take you along one of the most iconic of railways, the Settle to Carlisle, here you will be able to see the famous arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct. As the scenic journey continues, you will eventually arrive at Chipchase Castle and Gardens, where you will explore the grounds.
The third day of this luxury train journey aboard the Royal Scotsman will send you to Derwentwater, in the heart of the Lake District, a location that inspired Beatrix Potter's "The Tale of Peter Rabbit". You will take lunch at the home of Lord and Lady Inglewood.
Your Glorious and Grand tour continues and day four of this luxury train holiday from Scotland will journey back towards the boards to Dumfries and Galloway. You will visit the Garden of Cosmic and after lunch, you'll visit Drumlanrig Castle.

Itinerary:
Day 1 – Edinburgh:
Your journey starts in Edinburgh where you are welcomed aboard the Royal Scotsman luxury train at Waverley Station in the early afternoon. The first stop on your journey is one of the most impressive; a visit to Alnwick Castle, known as a famous Harry Potter filming location where you will not only enjoy the castle but the majestic grounds as well. Enjoy drinks and canapes in the castle before taking a tour of the gardens with the head gardener. Returning to the Royal Scotsman, enjoy an informal dinner as we continue south to Scarborough.
Day 2 – Penrith:
The day begins with a leisurely breakfast on board as we continue our journey. Be sure to head to the Observation Car for exceptional views of the Ribblehead Viaduct! Lunch is served early before you disembark to Hexham to visit Chipchase Castle and Gardens where you are free to explore the incredible architecture and gardens. Return to the train for an informal dinner followed by live music in the Observation Car.
Day 3 – Derentwater:
We head to Derwentwater, an exceptional location in the heart of the Lake District. Spend time exploring this enchanting location, an inspiration for Beatrix Potter’s ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’. Lunch is served on location at the home of Lord and Lady Inglewood, where a private tour of the Hutton-in-the-Forest estate follows. The day concludes with an informal dinner on board before the train stables for the night.
Day 4 – Dumfries & Galloway:
This morning we continue north back into Scotland to Dumfries and Galloway where you’ll disembark for a tour of the Garden of Cosmic Speculation, based at the home of landscape architect Charles Jencks. After lunch back on board the Royal Scotsman, we disembark once more in Sanquhar to visit Drumlanrig Castle. Later that day, we head back to the train for a formal dinner before heading to the Observation Car for a farewell drink.
Day 5 – Edinburgh:
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as the Royal Scotsman returns to Edinburgh Waverley railway station where your Scottish journey concludes.

In the rare instance your booking cannot be fulfilled for any reason, such as the operator cancelling a journey or anything else beyond our control, we will be in touch with alternative options or will refund your payment.
All prices shown are for one adult ticket. Sleeper journeys are based on two adults sharing accommodation. Single occupancy of cabins may incur additional charge.

This is done so the operators can add you to their guest list, send you your tickets and ensure the meals served to you onboard meet your dietary requirements. By booking with LuxuryTrainTickets.com, you are agreeing that you allow such necessary details to be shared with the operators under the cause of legitimate interest. There are a limited number of private tables and cabin types onboard. While we keep our website updated regularly, there may be occasions when private tables or cabin types become fully booked meaning we are unable to fulfil your booking requirements. Should this be the case, we will contact you to discuss alternative options and refund any payments made.
We have the right to refuse the request of a deposit when a journey is scheduled to depart in less than 16 weeks. If you choose to book with a deposit you must pay the remaining balance in full 15 weeks before departure at the latest. Should you fail to pay the remaining balance 15 weeks prior to departure, you will forfeit your deposit and your booking. Deposits are accepted by request. Most journeys require a 25% deposit to secure a booking however some specialist journeys do require a 50% deposit. Please contact us for confirmation.
Tickets are sent electronically around 5 days before departure. You will not receive tickets or any form of 'gift pack' in the post. This is in an attempt to reduce paper use and do our part for the environment.
