DAY FIVE - SHIMLA TO AMRITSAR

This morning, we depart Shimla and journey to Ambala, where you’ll board the train bound for Amritsar.

Amritsar, a vibrant cultural hub and spiritual heart of the Sikh community, invites you to delve into its rich heritage. Founded in the 16th century by Guru Ram Das Ji, the city is steeped in Sikh traditions and history. Experience the awe-inspiring Golden Temple, a sacred masterpiece initiated by Guru Ram Das Ji and completed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji, showcasing divine devotion and architectural splendour.

As night falls, embrace the tranquillity of the Palki Sahib ceremony at the Golden Temple. Witness the sacred Guru Granth Sahib being ceremonially put to rest, accompanied by the soulful chanting of Gurbani (hymns) by devoted worshippers.

DAY SIX - AMRITSAR

DAY EIGHT - DELHI

Delhi, one of the world’s oldest cities, is a vibrant metropolis renowned for its bustling bazaars and lively street markets, offering a captivating blend of history and modernity.

Our immersive city tour begins at Raj Ghat, a serene memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, before visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb, a magnificent example of Mughal architecture. We then marvel at the towering Qutab Minar, the world’s tallest brick minaret at 238 feet (73 metres), dating back to 1368 and showcasing stunning Indo-Islamic design.

This evening, we indulge in a sumptuous dinner aboard our private train, the Deccan Odyssey, as we embark on an unforgettable rail journey across India. DAY NINE - FATEPHUR SIKRI & AGRA FORT

After breakfast, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fatehpur Sikri, often referred to as the ‘ghost city.’ Built entirely from red sandstone, this historic town was abandoned in 1585, shortly after its construction, due to a lack of water. Its stunning architecture offers a glimpse into the grandeur of the Mughal era.

In the afternoon, our journey continues to Agra Fort, an imposing structure that once served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors until 1638. Dominating the skyline, its 2.5-kilometre-long red sandstone walls enclose a wealth of treasures, including enchanting palaces and two exquisitely preserved mosques, each a testament to the opulence of the Mughal dynasty.

DAY TEN - AGRA (FOR TAJ MAHAL)

Today is dedicated to exploring the breathtaking Taj Mahal, an iconic masterpiece of white marble situated on the southern bank of the Yamuna River. Widely regarded as the most famous building in the world, the Taj Mahal stands as a timeless symbol of love and artistic brilliance.

Commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, this magnificent mausoleum was completed in 1648 after 22 years of meticulous craftsmanship by 20,000 skilled artisans. There is nowhere else you can witness such a profound architectural tribute to eternal love and inspiration.

We begin the day early to experience the Taj Mahal at sunrise when its ethereal beauty is most captivating and the crowds are minimal. Later, enjoy breakfast (weather permitting) in the gardens of the Taj Khema Hotel, with stunning views of the Taj Mahal in the distance.

After this unforgettable experience, we return to the Deccan Odyssey for lunch and continue our luxurious rail journey towards the vibrant state of Rajasthan.

DAY ELEVEN - JAIPUR

Arrive in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan and famously known as the ‘Pink City,’ where the vibrant colours and rich heritage of this historic metropolis captivate the senses.

The morning begins with a visit to the majestic Amber Fort, a masterpiece of Rajput architecture. Explore its stunning interiors, including the opulent Hall of Mirrors, adorned with intricate designs that reflect its royal grandeur.

After lunch at a local restaurant, your exploration continues with a visit to the Jantar Mantar Observatory, a remarkable collection of astronomical instruments, followed by the vast and imposing City Palace. You will also marvel at the exquisite Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, an architectural gem built entirely of pink sandstone in 1799. This delicately designed monument allowed royal ladies to observe daily life discreetly from its lattice windows. If time permits, you’ll explore one of Jaipur’s renowned fabric markets before returning to the train for some relaxation.

This evening, dine at the opulent Rambagh Palace Hotel, once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur. Built in 1835, the palace exudes grandeur with its intricate marble latticework, sandstone balustrades, elegant cupolas, cenotaphs, and beautifully designed Mughal gardens. DAY TWELVE - UDAIPUR

Wake to a leisurely morning aboard the train, allowing the captivating landscapes and spirit of India to unfold before our eyes. Later, you will have the opportunity to attend a fascinating talk on Indian culture before arriving in Udaipur, the ‘City of Lakes,’ often referred to as the ‘Venice of the East.’ This enchanting city is a rich tapestry of stunning lakes and grand palaces from the Rajput era, each offering a glimpse into its royal past.

In the afternoon, visit the breathtaking Lake Palace, an architectural marvel built entirely of marble. Set on its own island in the serene waters of Pichola Lake, it radiates timeless beauty and grandeur. You then explore the medieval splendour of City Palace, a majestic complex that stands as a testament to Udaipur's royal heritage.

DAY THIRTEEN & FOURTEEN - MUMBAI

Day 13 marks your arrival in Mumbai, where you bid farewell to the esteemed Deccan Odyssey and transfer to the luxurious five-star Taj Mahal Palace & Tower Hotel for a two-night indulgence.
